Young Cemetery Newsletter 2013

For those of you who don’t know, we’re in the second year of a drought that is worse than the 30s.  How dry is it, you ask.  Well some bars are giving away beer and charging $5 a bottle for water.  I even noticed in the newspaper that some folks are going back into the outhouse business and are looking for old Sears catalogs!!! That’s dry.  It has to end sometime, but they said that about lousy politicians and they’re still in office.  It’s good politicians are not in charge of the drought, or they would be selling us sand by now.

We’re still trying to get in a new fence on the front, but are a little short on funding.  If you would like to donate to the fence drive, we’ll put in a nice nameplate telling everyone who helped with the fence.  We do have a chain link fence, but with the new gates, it would make a much more pleasant view if we could upgrade the rest of the front fence.  It will make a nice long range project.

For those of you who live off, Butch Bridges (I have mentioned this in the past, but want to do it again) runs a neat email for those around the Carter County area.  If you’re not getting it, you can go to email: butchbridges@oklahomahistory.net and have him connect you with the newsletter.  I am sure  you will enjoy it and look forward to each issue.  It comes out a couple of times a month with interesting articles sent in from viewers.  Also,  if you haven’t been back in a while, you need to go see the Gene Autry Museum in the old school building.  There is lots of stuff there and it will take you back a while.  Also, they are putting more oil and gas wells around the area. Things are booming around here.

You can contact me and see how things are going at brendac@carrelltrucking.com.  Without  your support, we cannot keep the cemetery maintained and the more that know about it, hopefully they will send a little.  Even if you can’t spare a dime in this economy, please drop me a line and let me know how you’re doing. Things are tough everywhere, and we’re no exception. Don’t forget the Young Cemetery website at youngcemetery.com.  We’d love to have everyone look in, write something, maybe a couple of photos, current or past. Please send us names of relatives as our mailing list is getting real low.  We know there are a lot of folks out there who would like to receive our newsletter, thanks for your help.

Again, we appreciate your donations, without them, we’d go back to the way it was and nobody wants to do that.  If you’d like some work done in your area, let us know and we’ll try to get someone to help out. Seeing quite a few new headstones and maintenance at the cemetery, so we know folks are coming out and fixing up things.  Remember, Reunion Day is May 25,  if you can drop by, hopefully some folks will  be there and we can visit a while. We’ll try our best to have things all mowed and ready, depending on the weather.  Hopefully it will start raining and not quit for a long time, but that’s just wishful thinking.  Please send all your donations to Young Cemetery Association, C/O Brenda Carrell, 3801 Springdale Road, Ardmore, OK 73401
